The Uzalendo Half Marathon, a significant sporting event aimed at fostering education and community development, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Baringo County. Organizers have announced ambitious plans to raise 25 million Kenyan Shillings to establish an endowment fund that will sustainably support a noble scholarship program, marking a pivotal moment for the region.
Originally known as Eldama Ravine Half Marathon, the event has been rebranded to Uzalendo, symbolizing a 12-year tradition of promoting patriotism, education, and wellness. The marathon is expected to draw over 1,000 athletes and participants from across the country.

Local leaders and organizers emphasized the transformative goals of the marathon. “This year, the marathon seeks to raise 25 million towards establishing an endowment fund that will sustainably support this noble scholarship program in the long term,” stated a representative from the organizing committee. The initiative is not just a sporting event but a platform that inspires determination and promotes wellness for both local and global communities.
A key component of the Uzalendo initiative is the establishment of Uzalendo School, a public mixed and boarding secondary school modeled after the renowned Starehe Boys Centre. Launched in 2015, the school aims to provide quality education to bright and needy students. This year, its first candidate class of 59 students, with 35 on full scholarships, will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, highlighting the program’s impact.Furthermore, the marathon’s proceeds will support the construction of a library in Eldama Ravine, enhancing educational infrastructure and fostering a culture of learning. “Our first objective is to improve standards of education,” said another organizer, underscoring the event’s commitment to long-term community development.
The Uzalendo Half Marathon represents a collective effort to ensure continuity and impact for future generations, aligning sports with social responsibility. As the event approaches, anticipation builds among residents and participants, all united by the shared goal of transforming lives through education and community engagement.
