Mogadishu Devastated by Flash Floods, Leaving 7 Dead and Widespread Destruction

Mogadishu, Somalia – A torrential downpour of 115mm of rain, lasting eight consecutive hours, unleashed severe flash floods in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, causing significant loss of life and widespread destruction according to the Ministry of Water. The relentless rainfall overwhelmed the city, leading to blocked transportation routes, destroyed homes, and damaged infrastructure.


Mogadishu municipal authorities confirmed that the catastrophic floods claimed at least seven lives, destroyed nine houses, and damaged six major roads. The full extent of the casualties remains unclear, as the Ministry of Water has not yet provided specific figures on the total number of victims.


The floods have disrupted daily life in the capital, with emergency response teams working to clear debris and restore access to affected areas. Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious as recovery efforts continue amidst the ongoing challenges posed by the disaster.
