Police in Vihiga County have launched investigations into the death of a 42-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a banana plantation in Luanda Sub-County under mysterious circumstances.

The deceased has been identified as Dorcus Anditi Sefule, a resident of Eluama Village, Ebukhubi Sub-location, Ebulonga Location.

According to a police report, Sefule’s body was found on Monday morning lying on her back in the middle of a banana farm after locals stumbled upon it and alerted authorities. Officers who rushed to the scene found the body with visible multiple injuries and bruises, suggesting she may have been assaulted before her death.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before moving the body to Coptic Hospital Mortuary in Maseno for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death as detectives piece together the events leading to her killing. No arrests have been made so far, but police have recorded statements from family members and neighbours.

In a separate incident in the same sub-county, police are investigating the death of a 43-year-old man whose body was found near a swamp in Mwinaya area.

The man has been identified as Martin Amukoa of Mwinaya Village, Itumbu Sub-location. His body was discovered at around 9:59 am on Monday by Charles Amuli, a village elder who reported the matter to police.

Officers who visited the scene found Amukoa’s body lying face down near the swamp, with blood oozing from his nose and mouth. A preliminary examination revealed injuries to his forehead, raising suspicion of foul play.

The scene was also processed and the body moved to Coptic Mortuary for preservation and post-mortem.

Meanwhile, in Kwale County, detectives have recovered human skeletal remains believed to be those of a 39-year-old man who went missing two weeks ago.

The remains were discovered on Monday morning in a forested area in Kasemeni Sub-location, Mwereni Location, Lungalunga Sub-County after locals reported a foul smell coming from the thicket.

Police said they found a human skull with a deep cut wound on the scalp and upon searching the surrounding area, recovered scattered bones, tattered clothes, a pair of shoes and a belt.

Residents from neighbouring villages positively identified the remains as those of Nyanje Ruwa Nyanje, a 39-year-old man from Mwakalanga Village who had been reported missing since August 3. His brother-in-law was among those who identified the personal effects.

Investigators are probing whether the cut wound on the skull is linked to his death, while also examining the possibility that wild animals may have fed on the body after death, leaving skeletal remains scattered.

The scene was photographed and processed before the remains were collected and taken to the Coast General Hospital Mortuary for preservation, detailed autopsy and further forensic sampling.

Police have urged members of the public with information that could assist in the three investigations to come forward.
