A three-year-old girl has been rescued by neighbours in Mtaa wa Katikati, Shonda area of Likoni, Mombasa, following allegations of abuse involving her biological father.
The child was rescued this morning after residents reportedly responded to cries coming from a house that had allegedly been locked from the outside overnight.
According to Amina Mohamed of Sauti ya Kina Mama, the organisation was alerted after residents heard the child crying and moved to investigate.
Mohamed said the circumstances surrounding the incident raised concerns about the child’s safety, prompting neighbours to intervene and rescue her.
The girl’s father, identified as Caleb Omondi, was later apprehended by members of the public and escorted to Inuka Police Station, where he was taken into custody.
Authorities are expected to investigate the allegations and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The rescue has renewed calls for members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse to relevant authorities to ensure the safety and protection of children.
