THOUSANDS of residents in Chonyi, Kilifi County, have turned up for free government services in a Huduma Mashinani initiative aimed at helping locals obtain essential documents.

VOICED PACKAGE

More than 2,000 residents gathered at Kidutani Primary School grounds, where officers from Huduma Centre Kilifi provided services including issuance of identity cards, birth and death certificates, certificates of good conduct and voter registration.

Organizers say lack of these documents has prevented many residents, particularly young people, from accessing government services and employment opportunities.

The programme was organized by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi’s liaison officer, Sammy Ndago, who is also eyeing the Kilifi South parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

Ndago says the Huduma Mashinani initiative will continue until more residents acquire the documents they need.

He has particularly urged young people aged 18 and above to obtain identity cards and register as voters, saying they have an opportunity in 2027 to elect fellow youths into leadership.

Ndago also called for increased youth representation in Parliament and county assemblies, while urging residents to reject political zoning and instead choose leaders of their preference.

He further criticized local leaders for allegedly doing little to mobilize support for President William Ruto’s re-election.

Ndago says political inclusivity should be embraced ahead of the 2027 General Election, warning that voters should be allowed to freely choose their preferred leaders.

The Huduma Mashinani programme is expected to continue reaching more communities in Kilifi South as residents seek access to government documentation and services closer to home.
