A section of residents from Isiolo North constituency have expressed optimism following the government’s announcement of an increase to the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), saying the additional resources would accelerate ongoing development initiatives in education and security infrsastructure.

The NG-CDF allocation for the 2026/27 financial year has increased from Sh58.8 billion to Sh61.8 billion, with each of the 290 constituencies set to receive between Sh8.8 million and Sh11.3 million more than in the previous financial year.

Pauline Akai from Burat ward termed the increase as a huge relief to parents and guardians who depend on bursaries to sustain their children in school.

She said schools across the constituency had continued to benefit from NG-CDF investments over the years, expressing hope that the additional allocation would enable more students to access bursaries and support the construction of classrooms and other facilities.

“The projects we have seen have made a difference to many families. With more funding, I believe more children will have an opportunity to stay in school and learn uninterrupted,” she said.

Another resident, Abdi Osman from Bulapesa ward said development projects funded through the constituency kitty had positively impacted local communities and should now be expanded to reach more areas.

He noted that continued investment in security-related initiatives and education would help improve livelihoods and create a safer environment.

“When development projects like classrooms, administration blocks and laboratories are completed, people gain confidence. We hope the additional funds will build on what has already been achieved,” Osman said.

The increase in funding was announced following a parliament approval of a higher NG-CDF budget despite the country’s tight fiscal environment.

The fund is usually distributed under a formula that allocates 75 per cent equally among all constituencies, while the remaining 25 per cent is shared based on the number of wards.

The constituency’s allocation is set to increase from its previous allocation of Sh211,874,573 for the 2025/2026 financial year.

The fund has been hailed for fair allocation of bursaries to bright but needy learners, improving infrastructure across public schools, buying school buses as well as improving infrastructure in security institutions.

Residents in Isiolo North expressed hope that the increased allocation will sustain the pace of development, allowing more communities to benefit from improved education, enhanced security and other projects that directly improve livelihoods.NG-CDF Committee Chairperson and Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma said the increase would help drive equitable development across the country, adding that the committee remains committed to securing more resources in future budgets to address growing constituency needs.

He also called on MPs to submit their project proposals for the 2026/27 financial year by July 31 to facilitate timely implementation.
