DNA analysis has confirmed that human remains recovered in a thicket near Uhuru Primary School in Isiolo belong to George Gitonga, a trader who went missing in May after reportedly ferrying individuals who had posed as customers.
Gitonga was reported missing at Isiolo Police Station on May 15, 2026 with witnesses reporting that he was last seen ferrying two individuals on his motorbike.
A week long search led to the recovery of suspected human remains in a thicket near Uhuru Primary School that was later submitted for forensic analysis.
According to a letter by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in Isiolo, the remains recovered were marked as exhibits.
On 25th May 2026, the same was forwarded to the government chemist for DNA analysis.
According to the DCI, DNA samples collected from the victims mother and two siblings matched that of the remains, confirming the family’s worst fear.
“Based on the DNA Profiles generated from the listed items, there are 99.99+% more chances that the donor of the blood stains on the polythene bag and the pieces of bone is a biological son to Rosa Wambeti,” the letter states.
The investigators have further called on the family to collect the remains at the Isiolo Referral Hospital mortuary noting that it marked the beginning of quest to establish the clear circumstances surrounding Gitonga’s death.
