Senator Mohammed Faki of Mombasa County joined Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho today to launch the Mikindani Wetland Sewage Treatment Plant, a significant step toward reducing sewage pollution in the region.


The project, supported by the European Union and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) through the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), was hailed as a timely milestone in environmental conservation. In his speech, Senator Faki underscored the importance of preserving natural resources for future sustainability.


The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including European Union Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Henriette Geiger, French Ambassador H.E. Arnaud Suquet, and Blue Economy and Fisheries Principal Secretary Betsy Njagi. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohammed, and Jomvu MP Badi Twalib were also in attendance, highlighting the project’s significance to the region.
